Clean air
Pollution from the world's transportation fleet accounted for at least 385,000 deaths in 2015 and caused $1 trillion in damages to health. Long-term exposure to fine particulates, nitrogen oxides, hydrocarbons, and carbon monoxide in vehicle exhaust is linked to lung cancer, heart disease, stroke, and asthma. The ICCT’s Clean Air Program advises governments and civil organizations on strategies to address the public health and near-term climate impacts of outdoor air pollution from transportation.
